There are diseases that do not respond to physical or mental treatment or just do not make physical sense, such as small children getting cancers or diseases that keep coming back. These conditions require that the karma creating the suffering be corrected before any treatment is effective. Jyotiṣa, also called Vedic Astrology, utilizes kārmic therapies (daiva-cikitsā) to help heal disease caused by past actions. This presentation will discuss references from Charaka Saṁhitā about karmic disease and then illustrate how to diagnose if a condition is caused by karma. We will discuss effective remedies that can be done by those who do not know astrology. Then we will look at examples of disease in astrological charts and show how karmic remedies can be made very specific, just as an herbal formula is individualized for a patient.

Freedom Cole is a practitioner of Āyurveda, Yoga therapy and Jyotiṣa. He is the author of two books and numerous articles. Freedom teaches a traditional Jyotiṣa lineage from Odisha, India. He is faculty in the Kripalu Integrative Yoga Therapy program and is presently working on a PhD researching trauma and prajñāparādha.
